Co-designing TMR’s Accessibility and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) commissioned Outpost Consulting to lead the co-design of a new three-year Accessibility and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan. TMR is committed to equitable access and inclusion in the design of its transport products, services and infrastructure. It needed a renewed strategy that reflected new policies, technology, research and customer expectations.
Universal design and co-design were at the heart of our approach, with customers, staff and partners treated as equal collaborators. Alongside a detailed environmental scan and desktop review, we ran in-person and online focus groups with participants from metropolitan and regional areas, surveys and targeted interviews. More than 100 customers and 90 staff and key delivery partners were directly involved.
The resulting Strategy and Action Plan set out TMR’s values-led, universal design approach, clear minimum standards for accessibility and inclusion, and a focused set of prioritised actions to drive change and continuous improvement across the transport network.
